In 1889 a group of people who
desired insurance coverage began to discuss forming their own mutual
insurance. Farmer's Mutual Fire, Lightning and Windstorm Insurance Company
of Andrew County, Missouri, was organized December 21, 1889, and incorporated
July 25, 1890. Section 5909 was handwritten in English and German by
Gotlieb Seggessmann, interpreter. Policies were handwritten for several
years. The office was located at Bolckow, the home of secretary, L.J.
Beecher. Annual meetings were often held at the courthouse in Savannah and
other nearby towns.
In 1893 the first annual meeting recorded: President, Joseph
L. Rea; Vice-president, A.M. Bedford; Treasurer, O.H. Hornby; Secretary, L.J.
Beecher.
In 1930 L.J. Beecher, who had been secretary and director
since 1889 had been replaced by his daughter, Della Beecher, as secretary.
In 1962 the main office building at 422 Court, south side of
the square in Savannah, was purchased. This formerly had been the Howard
& Morrison Meat Market. Located in the building is Andrew County
Mutual Insurance, Mobile Med Care and three apartments.
At the April 8, 1975 annual meeting it was voted to change
the name to Andrew County Mutual Insurance Company. This was because many
homeowners mistakenly thought they had to be a farmer or live in the country to
get insurance with us.
Today we have joined the technological age and all records
are kept on computers and policies are printed by the computer. |
